Lexington Trash
Tired of the same show in town? Looking for a different kind of entertainment? How about something a lil’ like The Tonight Show, shaken (not stirred) with a splash of The Muppet Show? Then put your good foot on and head to BANG for The Trai La Trash Show. This variety-type show begins on August 18th with the first performance at 9:30pm and a late-night showing at 11:00pm. This weekly Monday night show will feature hostess Trai La Trash with a New York style cabaret act littered with raunch and pop culture. Each week will feature a different local celebrity guest who will perform one of their own numbers and then will include a segment called "Kamikaze Karaoke" in which the guest will be asked to join Trai La in a LIVE and on-the-spot duet. In true variety format, there will also be an array of musical guests each week and best of all, NO COVER!! That’s right, all this jizz…oops, I mean jazz, and you can save your money for cocktails by the hot bartenders.
No stranger to the stage, Trash has a lifetime of limelight under her glitterati belt. "I’ve been performing since I was a little girl," Trai La says as she shares with me a history with musical theatre and many stories of New York City Nightlife including her having been the premier drag bartender of one of the city’s most successful establishments, Splash. Eight years ago, she was asked to host for the first time and the trademarked ‘Trai La Trash’ was born. Prior to her move to our fair state, the campy Trai La was already contracted to perform alongside the infamous Lady Bunny at the first Lexington Fairness awards. She arrived in town just in time to help celebrate with Lexington’s First Pride in a number with Nicole Diamond.
In addition to sharing the stage with Nicole Diamond…by day, Trai La is the shopkeeper of the new eccentric performance costume shop Inspired Apparel which Nicole just opened at downtown Lexington’s Victorian Square. Inspired Apparel offers a quirky collection of fashions that can be used for the stage productions or a night out. The walls are lined with masks, shoes of every color and wigs of every style – and you may just need sunglasses to look through the racks of sequins or the cases of costume jewelry. There’s a color for everyone, I promise. And let’s talk about color for a moment…let’s say you need some make-up…Girls, or Grrls as it were, there’s every color of the rainbow. It seems that "hair" is the more contagious purchase; women predominantly come in, buy some hair, show their friends their new ‘do’ and then, in turn, a cluster will come to buy more hair. Now, don‘t feel left out, fellas, there’s plenty of men’s fashions – mostly formal, but some originals and costume parts as well. There‘s a top hat I‘ve got my eye on and now my clown costume will never go without accessories.
Inspired Apparel is open Tuesday through Saturday, so swing by to check out the goodies and let Trai La Trash help you find something just your size and style. And on Monday nights, remember to stop by BANG on Limestone to check out her new weekly act. I’ll see you there…and hopefully looking sharp in your ‘inspired apparel.’
