Shine Top 5 May 08
Keeping with G3’s Super Hero theme, my top 5 songs for May are not always flattering to the heroes themselves. They are rather mixed with angst, tragedy, and some glory…just like Super Heroes themselves. They are:
1. When Heroes Go Down - by Suzanne Vega on her 99.9 Degrees Fahrenheit album.
2. Super Hero - by Garrison Star on her Eighteen Over Me album. This song talks about wanting to be a super hero as a kid, then backing away from wanting to rescue so much as an adult. Very clever and a rocking tune.
3. Heroes - by John Gorka on his After Yesterday album questioning whether one can live up to expectations after being a hero.
4. Heroes - by David Bowie on many albums of his and covered by everybody from The Magnetic Fields to King Crimson.
5. Wind Beneath My Wings - by Bette Midler. This was a huge hit for her and one of the most maltzy, schmaltzy hero songs there is! But Bette rules no matter what she does.
Keep the good fight going and stay strong!
